A 'HEMI" is an exceptional, high powered performance engine. And that is exactly what this sweet Brittany is. Affectionately referred to as 'little britches' and "Hemikins" - Hemi was our pick male pup from the Pippin and Chevy litter. He has never ceased to amaze me. We knew what we wanted from the exceptional pairing of Hemi's parents and in his early weeks and months we felt confident our objectives would be realized. At the age of 4 weeks old Hemi was easily standing square without effort or assistance. One of the two alpha pups in the litter, as his personality emerged it was clear to see that although dominant, he was extremely calm with a sweetness we could not have expected. By the time he was 8 weeks old, Hemi was already pointing his birds. At 12 weeks old he was holding steady for them. By 16 weeks Hemi was the most advanced we had ever seen at that age, easily doing as well as some of our older crew. And it was at that time, Ann discovered this following quotation by Mike Gaddis: “The desire in an exceptional pup is like a rare young wine, kegged from a proven vineyard. Nurture it slowly to perfection and it will pleasure the years. Tap it prematurely, and you will squander it’s bouquet in infancy”. It was obvious that this applied to Hemi, not only in regards to his bird dog training, but in all aspects of his life which also includes the show ring. Indeed, Hemi's potential has been carefully nurtured not only in regards to hunting or field events, but also regarding his AKC show championship. Handled by Ann, Hemi picked up his first 3 show points between the ages of 6-9 months of age with several reserve wins. He won his fourth point just as he turned 1 years old and the next day won Best Bred by Exhibitor in Breed with very nice competition. On another weekend out, Hemi picked up 2 more show points and also a 3 point major. Not only his first major, but the first time I have ever handled a dog to win one! I am so proud to say that I handled Hemi to a 3 point major at the Central Maine Brittany Club 2013 Specialty under Judge Douglas Gaudin, finishing his championship! I still show Hemi from time to time as a Special and he already has a grand champion major and additional grand champion points. Sailing through his AKC Junior Hunt tests, I hope to have Hemi work towards his Senior and Master Hunting title. There is plenty of time for this magnificent Brittany boy. Hemi is available for stud service to approved bitches and has sired 4 beautiful litters of pups to date with the majority of them are proving to be outstanding bird dogs with AKC and NAVHDA hunt titles. Several pups are also dual pointed and with placements in both field and ring. More information is available upon request.
