A Little Bit About Us
We will celebrate our 38th wedding anniversay in 2013. With a solid belief in God - the times spent with our entire family gathered around are the moments of our life that bring us the greatest joy! We also greatly value times spent with our friends. We are uniquely blessed by the reality of an occassional blending of many special moments of our life together with family, friends, and Brittanys.
Fall is our favorite time of year! We enjoy spending beautiful fall days together, walking through colorful Maine woodlands and fields with Brittanys hunting nearby. It is an unexplainable sense of joy to watch our dogs hard at work, doing what they were born and created to do. And it is then that they too that a Brittany dog is the happiest. Ann will confess that her favorite part of bird hunting is handling and photographing the dogs, "guiding", and trying out new recipes for gamebird cookery. (John too is quite an accomplished game 'chef'!)
While John has always enjoyed hunting, it is his "JackDog" who best fulfills his gundog dreams! Jack is a true golden-boy, John's faithful companion who can often be seen riding shotgun in the truck when not out hunting. All of ATB enjoys their own time in the woods and are great bird dogs. John, a native of Maine, has always enjoyed hunting of all kinds and it is a true family heritage. Ann is an avid reader, loves to write, enjoys music, is a vocalist, plays the keyboard at church and enjoys very amateur photography, some of which is featured at ATB Photography.
We enjoy entering an occasional dog show, hunt test, and/or field trial. Our dogs do well in these competitive events. The love of the dog both given and received IS our primary focus and goal for them. That means, our dogs are an important part of our daily life with the majority of our time spent with them. Each Brittany in our life is respected for the unique animal it is.
As any multi-dog owner knows, no two dogs are alike. We enjoy spending quality one on one time with each of our Brittanys every day as well as the positive pack dynamics that exist among them when they are together. Our home is shared with our dogs, and several of them are always inside with us.
Noseprints on windows, dog hair on the couch, and their toys scattered from one end to the other - our dogs are family. Some of them sleep with us. (Oh dear!) We always offer the use of a lint brush to our family and friends before they leave. Having dogs in the house is a given.
We do not have ALL the dogs in the house ALL the time. But we do have SOME dogs in the house at ALL times! We also often hang out with our canine crew in 'their' dog house, a small cozy kennel with many 'amenities'. It gives new meaning to being in the dog house.
We take our responsibilty as breedersof purebred dogs very seriously. (Ann is no stranger to the world of dog breeding as her parents raised Boston Terriers in the 60's under the kennel name "Flash Again".) We fully embrace the concept of the dual dog. J & A's Brittanys is forever dedicated to breeding for a close working Brittany gun dog for hunting families with the disposition that endears all humans to this breed. We also strive for conformation as it pertains to type and function in the field. As long as there are upland game hunters who desire that type of family hunting companion we will be happy to help them. We are extremely proud to have a reputation of producing outstanding close working gundogs who also have the ability to be competitive in the conformation ring, field, agility, obedience, and flyball.

ANIMAL RIGHTS vs ANIMAL WELFARE - Be aware of the difference
We are both active on various levels on behalf of responsible animal owners and breeders and specifically hunting dog owners. In the photo above we are presenting Maine Senator Stan Gerzfosky with the 2010 Sportsmans Animal Owners Voting Alliance (SAOVA) Legislator of the Year Award.
As dog owners (not guardians),we absolutely abhor animal abuse and have ZERO tolerance for neglect and cruelty. Subsequently, we feel the same way about inhumane and illegal hunting practices. Now more than ever it is important for everyone to be aware of certain damaging untruths concerning animal ownership, breeding and the time honored, respected tradition of hunting. All of these rights we take for granted concerning animal ownership AND hunting are in danger of being taken away. We have established an internet presence to help address these needs at Maine Hunting and Sporting Dog Owners and invite you to further understand more about these issues by exploring that blog as well as the links therein.
